It should be a standard size. More importantly you need to determine if it's a serial (SATA) or parallel (PATA) drive and get a USB case to match. Given the age, it's more than likely parallel.

Hi gang.

Is it possible for me to remove the old hard drive from my 2001 PC,
and be able to read it on the iMac. I have a few files i see that were
not backed up. No biggy, i can just rescan the photos, (these will be
inserted in the memoir book), but i already have them scanned, in TIF,
and with my new found editing skills, would just have to re edit them
instead of rescan and edit.
if the PC is still working there are all sorts of possibilities, from
lashing them together and making an ad hoc network, to emailing them to
yourself, to plopping them on CDs etc.

If the PC is not working then you should be able to take the disk out and
put it in a usb hard disk enclosure/caddy or such like to plug into the mac.
PC is not working, or at least not booting. It is an older hard drive,
circa 2005 or 2006, 80gig. I assume then these cases are in various
sizes or should i pull it, measure its dimensions and go from there.

These things only cost a few quid, not much.
Great, i thought it would cost me some money.
