Looks like I've had a positive outcome related to the question I had about whether my new 645NII was USA warranty covered or not, and have also learned a bit in the process.
After talking with several folks at Pentax I now know that Pentax Corp. (USA) does in fact affix the hologram "P" to all medium format equipment -- bodies, lenses and if I understand correctly also on other major accessories. However, they also indicate that it is entirely possible that some of that does get out for distribution without the "P" but I was told that they don't think that much of that does happen (another words, it's not intentional, but things happen). And the definitive answer about my camera (purchased from World Photo Sales) is that I was told that this camera is/would be covered by USA warranty. One interesting thing that I've learned about all of this is just how much Pentax cares about USA vs. grey market, and how far they're willing to go to not only protect consumers but also to help out. Today I had a Pentax rep call me at my office, and tonight a sales rep called me at home (and all this is on top of many e-mails over the past several days). Both reps gave me a lot of information about conversations held at Pentax about my situation, about concerns expressed here, and even about Pentax being contacted by someone from World Photo Sales who was also concerned over this hologram "P" issue. All in all I'm pretty impressed by how much support from Pentax that I got. Dan Kirsch - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
