there are numerous tools to do this sort of thing; the one i use is called

I have my own more primitive system that works for me (a passworded Notes file
of names and passwords on my computers and iPhone). But I am curious - does
your approach allow you to share those unseen auto-generated passwords across
systems? I.e., can you synch the process with your laptop and smartphone?

in a word, absolutely; it's a complete system; i sync from my Mac with the 1Password iPhone app; Windows and Android versions also available; i also sync my vault automatically to Dropbox, and even on a machine without the 1Password app installed, i can use my vault because it includes a complete HTML fileset that can securely open my vault on any modern browser (except IE8)

and syncing is efficient since the vault is actually a set of files for each encrypted item -- changing one item doesn't require resyncing the whole set

(in case i sound like a shill for 1Password, standard disclaimer)
