I think this could be a fine camera for me and I'll be watching for more information. I want to have fun with my camera but I also want to take great shots. I carry a Nikon P6000 with me when I travel now, and I've gotten some great shots with it. Yeah, it's a small sensor and noisy and the camera is slow and the lens focuses poorly and everyone dishes on what a piece of crap it is... BFD: it works and once you blow past the limitations, you can do good work with it. I've also gotten some fine shots form my Kodak Retina A which relies on dead reckoning for focus and exposure (unless you pack a separate hand held meter). Again - it works. The Q looks like a huge step up from the compact camera I'm used to using and not as bulky as the micro 4/3rds, which are not all that small. If the image quality proves to be good, I'll probably go for one. I'm pretty tolerant about what good means - if it is on par with a scan of ISO 400 print film, I can probably make a print from it that does what I want.
If you can figure out how to make something work when everyone else is focused on why it won't work, you're ahead in the game. I'd love a camera this small and if the image quality is on par with the compact that i use now, the interchangeable lenses and ergonomics would make it a no-brainer to buy, IMO. So - the Q may well be for me... If they made a10mm marco for it, it might even be more for me...:-) MCC ----- Original Message ---- From: John Celio <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, June 23, 2011 5:18:33 PM Subject: Mind your Ps and Qs: the Q is not meant for you I'm amazed by how many people are expressing disappointment in the Q, here and on other forums, as if it's supposed to be some sort of professional camera system. Guys, this is a modern Auto110. It's made for moderately versatile convenience, and it's aimed at people who want to have fun with their cameras. Those of us who lug around our K-whatevers every day are not the intended market! Please, take a chill pill and quit acting like Pentax owes you a better camera. They already make better cameras, and you probably already own one of them. Pentax may very well come out with a larger mirrorless camera this year, but I'd be willing to bet you'll find some reason to bitch about it anyway. John P.S.: For what it's worth, I think the Q is pretty damn intriguing. As an Auto110 fan, I like this addition to Pentax's digital lineup. -- http://www.jacelio.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
