I'm an IT folk, and I don't go there either. Even when I had a car and
bought my own petrol I didn't track it. I only know one person who tracks
her spending to that level of detail but it's a relic of days when she got
so deep into debt that it was a necessary part of getting out of it. 

I know one guy who can tell you at any moment exactly how much money is in
his bank account, but he's an accountant so that's to be expected.
Otherwise, like me, they just check their statement once a month and if
everything is more or less in order, that's it until next time.

I think that most people I know are in a pattern of fairly stable,
controlled spending, so it doesn't vary much from month to month, and
anything exceptional is planned ahead.
