The Current Pentax Digital Flashes AF360 and the AF540 have Spot Beams
or Focus Assist. The Spot Beam Focus Assist is described on page 55 of
the AF360 Manual. (Ahem.)
The first two are available NEW and also Used several places. And they
are Pretty! Which should count for something.
If memory serves me, which it sometimes does, the older AF500 also has a
Spot Beam or Focus Assist. And, because it is Not Digital, the AF500 is
available Plenty Cheap! (Powerful and Cheap and Uses AA batteries.
What's not to like?) If you want to use the Strobe Function, then
These Flashes all have Plenty of Horsepower, unless you are in Carlsbad
Caverns. I figure about 160 on the 540 and 150 on the 500 and the
smaller 360 cranks out about 90 Guide Number with a 50mm or 108 with the
ubiquitous 85mm lens. That should be enough for most uses.
And did I mention they have Spot Beams? When in doubt, I like to
RTFM! (Now you know why I lurk -- I'm so darned disagreeable! Galloway)
