I'm pretty sure that there are several more or less standard OS' for cameras. I doubt that the each manufacturer built theirs from scratch. The Kernal has to be tweaked for the hardware and the UI is customized. Android is a Unix/Linux derivative, it seems that might be a bit of overkill for a dedicated device.
