We regularly get a bunch of these and all it takes is some thistle. Cute
little guys that will begin losing their yellow plumage for the coming
winter months.

Great capture, Frank!
I've been lucky to have several of those visiting on a daily basis in the
past. Unfortunately, the tree that they liked to perch in was blown over
in a thunderstorm this spring, so I haven't seen much of them this year.
They are wonderful birds, though. They're the subject of some of my
favorites among all the photos I've taken.
I hope they'll get accustomed to your presence eventually, so you might be
able to move in a little closer without spooking them.

I've been trying for over a year to get one of these little fellows,
and yesterday is my best try yet. Not quite as sharp as I might like
(he moved his head just as I shot), I'm still pleased with this one.
Their bodies are only about 2 to 3 inches, so with a 200mm I have to
get quite close. They seem to know just when I'm "in my range", and
wait just until I get my monopod planted to fly away.
Anyway, here it is, taken yesterday down by Lake Ontario:

Hope you enjoy. Comments welcome.
