Not at all intended to be disparaging of the thrift stores. Love 'em, use them 
all the time on both sides of the counter. My wife was volunteer manager for 
one for several years. My point was that stores with much used ski equipment 
are probably reaping donations from former skiers who decided to give up their 
skis etc. at the same time that they took their crutches in.

ah, now i understand; it seemed sarcastic since i didn't get the connection

actually i'd blame the huge seasonal equipment turnover that a sport like skiing produces; this is a factor for more than just ski stuff, but being a bit of a bag whore i have noticed that the ski bags are often well made and in excellent condition, though i've had no use for them
