Paul, When I bought my 67, I talked to the store staff about a recommended head. I had a similar situation as you in that my legset was sturdy but my heads were too small. They recommended (and I bought) a Bogen 3047 pan head. It has a very large quick release and bigger handles for each direction to loosen and tighten. I have found it to be very comfortable to use and have had no problems with it. You might want to check it out. I can recommend it based on my experience.
