Hi-

I bought a Pentax 12-24mm zoom, and a 77mm Limited with the K-5.
It should be fast, for indoors available light, and somewhat south of $500ish.

My first thought was the 40mm f2.8 Limited Pancake.

On second thought, the plastic mounted 35mm DA L f2.4 might make a nice interim
lens. it can be shifted to the K100D bag if a better lens comes along.

Any opinions or suggestions?

The 31, either of the 35s, the 40 and 55 should be on your short list.
If you want a good lens that hits the sweet spot between your focal lengths, the 40 is a good choice, the 35/2.8LTD is a gorgeous piece of glass, though I find the images a bit sterile. The 55/1.4 is excellent, but big, and getting a bit far from a standard FL, which is something I think everyone should have in a prime lens, and as Bob mentioned, the 31 is as fine a lens as can be had from anyone. The 31 would be my first choice, but it leaves somewhat of a gap to 77mm, and is very close to the 24mm end of your zoom. OTOH, it is pretty much a perfect prime, in that it is both superb glass and hits the standard lens focal length almost perfectly.
