I understand your frustration.

Recently I bought an ist D (as a replacement for my faulty ist DS) to
use as a backup camera.  It came with Firmware 1.11 but as Firmware 1.12
is the latest I thought I might as well have it even though it adds
nothing that I need.

Off to the Pentax Imaging site > Support > Downloads > Cameras > Digital
SLR > *ist D.  That page offers Manuals (which I don't need) and
Software.  Hmmm. No Firmware. On clicking 'Software', the only available
download is the Pentax RAW codec, which I already have and which isn't
*ist D software anyway.  Scratching head and searching around the Pentax
Imaging site doesn't help.  It seems that there is no firmware for the
*ist D on the that site.

Perhaps I should try C R Kennedy's Pentax Australia site, I thought. 
No, it's not there either.

Eventually I found it on the Pentax Japan site.
