I understand your frustration. Recently I bought an ist D (as a replacement for my faulty ist DS) to use as a backup camera. It came with Firmware 1.11 but as Firmware 1.12 is the latest I thought I might as well have it even though it adds nothing that I need.
Off to the Pentax Imaging site > Support > Downloads > Cameras > Digital SLR > *ist D. That page offers Manuals (which I don't need) and Software. Hmmm. No Firmware. On clicking 'Software', the only available download is the Pentax RAW codec, which I already have and which isn't *ist D software anyway. Scratching head and searching around the Pentax Imaging site doesn't help. It seems that there is no firmware for the *ist D on the that site. Perhaps I should try C R Kennedy's Pentax Australia site, I thought. No, it's not there either. Eventually I found it on the Pentax Japan site. Here's the link for firmware releases for all Pentax DSLRs. http://www.pentax.jp/english/support/download_digital.html Cheers Brian ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Brian Walters Western Sydney Australia http://lyons-ryan.org/southernlight/ On Sunday, November 20, 2011 3:28 PM, "Joseph McAllister" <[email protected]> wrote: > On Nov 20, 2011, at 14:51 , Collin Brendemuehl wrote: > > I don't object to Pentax in favor of another brand, > > > > but just their ultra-conservative behavior which can > > be seen in the lack of longer fast lenses. > > Still, I agree that P does well to stay within their niche. > > > If they can even retain that niche.
