Hi Steve, Thanks for looking. I do believe there's a happy medium. A smaller ap would do it or more minus compensation on the flash. But, as I noted in a previous post, part of the problem with the flash pic is that it's a bit out of focus. I hadn't looked at it at 100% until this morning. My bad for sloppy work. The ambient light pic, on the other hand is fully in focus. They were sequential shots, but I generally keep refocusing in these situations, hoping that my old eyes can produce a better result on the second frame. That's what happened here, but the flash hadn't recharged. In any case, this has been a fruitful discussion, and while I'm rather casual about my wildlife shooting, I can certainly do a better job than I did here.
