In my experience, most criminals are stupid. Really stupid.
It's not something that's confined to one side of the law however.
Short version: Several years ago, a nearby Sheriffs Departments made a
large marijuana bust. So much so, that they parked a borrowed, surplus
Army 5-ton truck behind their building filled with the evidence. When
the case came to trial, the evidence was mostly missing.
The subsequent investigation revealed a large number of other
inadequacies in the department.
Lacking an incinerator suitable for the purpose, the majority of the
marijuana was simply buried in a local landfill. When the burial site
was re-checked after they discovered the "evidence" in the back of the
truck had gone missing, that marijuana was also missing.
Wish I'd seen the "Tarts" thread before posting this though.
