I completely agree with you about this, Ann, and I think it's important to
reiterate it on a list which includes many people of a certain age. Both my
parents died of cancer and because they smoked neither of them went to the
doctor. They knew he'd tell them to give up, and they were also scared that
he'd tell them they had cancer (duh!).

After I broke my wrist a few years ago I had a middle-aged man check-up and
the nurse told me that she only ever saw healthy men, because the unhealthy
ones were too scared to come and talk to her.
