But Mark, are you attempting to resolve individual atoms in that 6x7
neg? I've scanned in 8x10 prints at a decent rez and they were nowhere
near that file size.
I just want to see every blade of grass, every twig, every bump in the
bark of the trees. At 360 dpi these files are still make only a 28 x 22
inch print. (Never mind that most of these images get scaled down to no
more than 650 pixels in the long dimension for web display...)
But really, while a 600 mb file is larger than many, it is not large
on a absolute scale. If I was ony processing K5 raw files I would have
stuck with 6 gigs of ram.
