I wish I could get 8Gb into this Macbook Pro but it's apparently not possible.  
I have 4Gb in it at the moment.  I run a few memory-intensive apps (the web 
browsers are the worst; don't get me started) and I often have to close stuff 
down to prevent the hard drive from thrashing.  I think my next machine will 
have an SSD.

I used to regularly process 300Mb files from my 6x7 scans using my G5 PowerMac 
which I think has 3Gb.  It wasn't lightning fast but it was acceptable to me.  
This laptop would probably be a bit faster but I've never done a comparison.
