I use the LCD in all kinds of light. Sometimes it's a little difficult
to see ... In some types of lighting situations so is an eye-level
finder, and the LCD is easier. It's a heck of a lot easier to see an
LCD, particularly an articulated LCD, when I have the camera on a
short stand a few inches off the ground or at waist-level for a low
shot, or up on a tripod for a high eye-point shot.

Some of the LCD protectors out there do a very good job of enhancing
the performance of an LCD in sunlight. I have a fancy optical glass
one on both the M9 and GXR ... I can see them in even pretty darn
bright situations easily.

And of course you can always use a hat or a hand to shade the LCD in a
pinch. It's really not the problem it was with LCDs ten years ago. It
just takes learning a different way to use the view-finding tools.

The LCD as viewfinder has another benefit: you can look at it with
both eyes and see it more clearly rather than squinting with one eye
down a tunnel. That means you can see and engage with the scene you're
trying to photograph more easily. This is why I LOVED working with
Rolleiflex TLRs, Hasselblads, field cameras, etc with their nice, big
ground-glass viewfinders.
