Well, yeah. But that's a little like saying the best way to become
rich is to make lots of money. It's true, but doesn't provide much
helpful information about how to accomplish the task.
It's a first step they need to take if they want anything else to work.
I think the point was that Pentax may well realise that they are in too few
major shops, the problem is finding a way to get there. I believe it's a lot
more involved these days than just to call the shop owners and ask...

It is not just cameras. Even back when my local KC camera store carried Pentax gear, they had
a love/hate relationship with Pentax. The store owner liked the cameras but he could never
get anything but cameras from Pentax. E.g. I bought a couple of PZ-1p from him, asked him for
alternative focusing screens. He said that it would take months if ever before Pentax would
send him anything like that. Ditto a number of other "special orders" for screens,
battery grips, and other ancillary accessories for the PZ-1p, MZ-S, *ist-D. And then it got
to where he couldn't even get cameras from Pentax unless he committed to a large buy. So I
switched to Adorama and B&H.

Most people aren't going to buy a camera they can't see in a local store.

They may buy it from Amazon or B&H to get a cheaper price, but they're going to
look at it at Target or Walmart first. If they don't see Pentax there, they ain't
gonna' buy a Pentax.

And if they don't buy Pentax first time around, they ain't gonna' switch to
Pentax later.

You really had to have a good sales rep., and a good rapport with him, if you wanted anything other than the basics from Pentax. When Milford Photo was still in existence they were able to order for me an AF 280T when no one else could get one locally. Milford Camera their across the street rival, (owned by a former manager), had the same rep. and they couldn't get one.

Don't lose heart! They might want to cut it out, and they'll want to avoid a
lengthily search.
