I imagine plastic can be pretty durable but it just seems to me that the part of the lens that mates up against the metal mount on the body should be made of like material. Surely the price of a metal ring is not extravagantly high. If a plastic ring cost a penny and and a metal ring $5 (which I doubt), it would still be worth it.
