While I agree that the DA L lenses smack of cheapness, I also think that is the point. They are "gateway" lenses that are designed to nudge someone who bought a camera with only the kit lens(es) into the world of LBA and specifically the world of PRIME lenses. Once you have spent $200-$300 for a lens, spending $500-600 doesn't look quite as formidable the psyche.
If Pentax is making a mistake, it is in making the inexpensive line perform so well in the IQ department that the user feels no need to ever upgrade.
