When Canon released the EOS 650 Pentax released the SFX. If I remember correctly, the SFX were up among the best in AF technology back then. I'll say Pentax was right up there with the others until 1991; after the Z-1p they lost interest in the upper market segments. The MZ- series staring in 1995 was very successful. Anyway, the MZ-S is definitely on the right track. Although it is different from the competition I don't think that is negative but indeed positive. The metering and aspects of the AF performance is perhaps better than most of the competition. I do agree that Pentax have ruined their own image and brand recognition.
