That photographer Fred Herzog is good - I've never seen his stuff before. There are different types of critique which are more or less suitable for different contexts. I wouldn't expect people to write about my holiday snaps as if they were writing a review for Postmodern Weekly of the latest work by Pierre Brassau. I don't see much wrong with people saying 'Nice shot' on a list like this - I do it myself - and it can make someone a better photographer if their definition of better is someone whose work elicits that sort of comment.
