NikSoftware's CMS is a little bizarre (or maybe they all are).
I followed the instructions (carefully) and eventually got the Silver
Efex Pro (version 1) serial no. and downloaded it (but did not install
it).
Then I went to the Color Efex 3 link and started to do the same thing,
with the same email address from that one. All looked correct, but the
serial number that I was sent by Nik Software was a different format.
When I registered it with Nik Software, it showed that I had
registered Silver Efex Pro 2 (not Color Efex Pro 3). But the download
link wouldn't work. So I downloaded a Trial Version of Silver Efex Pro
2 and after it installed and gave me the option of using it as a 15
day trial or entering the serial number, I entered the serial number
they gave me. It accepted it and removed the trial countdown.
Guess maybe every millionth site visitor gets a free copy, huh?
When I was installing the complete Nik filters, I noticed the Product
Key formats differed from product to product. Some had a mix of letters
& numbers (case sensitive BTW - and 'O' is not '0'), some were just
plain numbers, some were grouped so you had to tab to the next box to
type in the next sequence, and some auto tabbed to the next box.
The other thing I ran into is the first thing Nik does (after prompting
for the Product Key) when you launch the filter for the first time is
suggest you go to the Nik download page and get the latest version. It's
not an update, it's a complete product. You have to enter the Product
Key all over again.
Faster to just download the latest version in the first place type in
the Product Key.
The only problem I ran into was getting the latest version of HDR Efex
Pro. The default is to download HDR Efex Pro2, but my HDR Efex Pro key
wouldn't work. I spent a long time composing an email to Nik tech
support about the problem, and barely noticed the HDR Efex Pro/Pro2
difference in time to cancel sending. Searched the site and found the
latest version of HDR Efex Pro which *did* accept my Product Key.
The upgrade to Pro2 is only USD $40, so I'll probably hit that soon.
