Well, I'll semi- quibble with that.

About a year ago my 1974-vintage Pioneer receiver died.  I replaced it with a 
Yamaha RS-500.  Wow, what a difference!  It inspired me to take apart, clean, 
and rebuild my 1974 Pioneer PL-12D turntable; and they sound wonderful through 
my EPI 100 (also 1974; rebuilt woofers in 1990) speakers.

That seems to be generally true of audio things these days - I think they
expect people to be permanently wearing headphones, or in the case of TVs to
be plugged into some sort of home cinema set up with
superoctomegatronic-3D-HDQ- surround-sound Dolby bollocks. Or maybe it's
