That's a possibility, but it's a different scenario. It's a case of Nikon having 2 more expensive and desirable FF bodies out and available already, before the D600. Sure, some people may have held on to their money had they known about the D600, but they'd have had the choice of FF bodies all in the Nikon line. I suspect anyone with the money for the D800 or D700, would likely buy one of those anyway, while the D600 represents a relatively bargain-priced step up from APS-C. That's the way I feel. Having set my thoughts on a D800E, which I should have shortly, the D600 didn't tempt me because it's a step down in some ways. For both D800/600 owners I see the D600 as likely being a lower priced second body. With the theoretical Pentax scenario, I wouldn't have been spending my money on a K-5II/S anyway if I was really hoping for a FF, especially if I already had a K-5. Not announcing an 'in-development' FF model (if one existed), wouldn't generate many more K-5II/S sales IMO. It could likely just cause potential buyers to look elsewhere. I think it's Pentax that either doesn't understand marketing or doesn't have a FF to market. From their own words, the latter is true. (side note with reference to the D600/D800. The D800 is a full 12MP resolution higher than the D600, and the D600 is 8MP higher resolution than Pentax's best offering. Hard to believe we're comparing cameras with these kind of resolutions when 10 years ago 6MP was all we had that was reasonably affordable.) Whether it's the way Ricoh Pentax desires it or not, my suspicion is that with the turmoil of the 2 recent mergers, they've been caught with their pants down, so to speak. Asleep at the wheel, peddling Q's and K-01's, while ignoring or unable to generate product in a potentially large market segment with the ability to boost their image. The rest of the world is passing them by in BIG ways at the moment.
