John, examine the plaintext source of that message. You'll find
there's an alt tag associated with one of the images with this phrase:
alt="You qualify for a free copy of HDR Efex Pro 2"

Most mailers don't support hover-overs in embedded images, so most
people would never see this. We have Darren's eagle-eyes to thank. :-)

I sent [email protected] an email but they're closed over the
weekend, so I haven't heard back yet.

I was referring to this link:

http://www.niksoftware.com/store/usa/entry.php?view=singlepurchase/HDR2.shtml

The alt="You qualify for ..." message is no where in the source for that
page. I looked.

I don't receive anything but plain text email. Many of the mailings I
receive from various corporate entities just show up with a message:

"This Email is intended to be viewed inside an HTML capable Email
client. If you are seeing this message, your Email client is not capable
of or not configured to render HTML."

My email client is "HTML capable", I just choose not to do so. If the
body of the email has something I'm interested in I might click the link
to get to the web page. But, since I don't sign up to receive
information from any source that doesn't offer the option of plain text
email, I'm not greatly impressed by those who send me HTML email instead.

Thing is, like I said, I haven't received any email from Nik except for
the regular monthly newsletters & the notice that my customer data will
be transferred to Google in December. Those all come as plain text messages.

Maybe I'm farther down on their mailing list or maybe they're not
sending that offer to already registered users of HDR Efex Pro?

The version of Complete Nik Filters I purchased included the first
version, HDR Efex Pro. The installation process suggests you download
the latest version to get all the updates and I didn't realize at first
that HDR Efex Pro & HDR Efex Pro 2 are two different programs. I
downloaded the latest version of HDR Efex Pro 2 & it baulked when I
tried to enter the serial number.

Fortunately for my self esteem I managed to figure it out before sending
off any stupid emails to Nik support.
