John, examine the plaintext source of that message. You'll find
there's an alt tag associated with one of the images with this phrase:
alt="You qualify for a free copy of HDR Efex Pro 2"
Most mailers don't support hover-overs in embedded images, so most
people would never see this. We have Darren's eagle-eyes to thank. :-)
I sent [email protected] an email but they're closed over the
weekend, so I haven't heard back yet.
I was referring to this link:
http://www.niksoftware.com/store/usa/entry.php?view=singlepurchase/HDR2.shtml
The alt="You qualify for ..." message is no where in the source for that
page. I looked.
The alt text appears in the email regarding transfer of private data
to Google. At least it was there in the email I and others received.
I also have my email client (Thunderbird) set to receive plain text.
When the Nik email arrived, the header image didn't load, so the alt
text was visible.
I've sent an email to Nik requesting a download link. If I don't hear
in a day or so, I'll take up Paul's suggestion and contact them
through their Chat link.
Ok. It *IS* because I don't get HTML email.
Not only do I have Thunderbird set up to show all email as plain text,
my account at NIK is set so that they only send me plain text email.
There was no image header in the email I got from Nik.
But, there was a link to view the email as a web page which opens it in
Firefox. The image header loads in Firefox, so I don't see the alt text
there either.
But knowing where it's supposed to be, I looked at the source code for
the web page using the search function to find 'alt="You qualify for'
... and there it is.
I'll contact them Monday as well.
