Im not familiar with those cameras you mention, but whatever
Pentax is doing now with their APSC dslrs can be scaled up to
allow much bigger viewfinder with FF, even AF.

Because for some reason it is. Manufacturers say they are meant for
providing longer eyepoint, useful to spectacle-wearers.
Anyway, just compare MX/LX with ZX-5/PZ-1.

Secondly, why do you feel an FF AF camera viewfinder must be smaller than a
FF manual focus viewfinder?

Bear in mind that an AF camera, even FF, won't have such a big screen
as an LX, MX, etc. I hear a lot of yearning for a Pentax FF "just for
the viewfinder" and I have to wonder if those people have looked
through the viewfinder of a FF DSLR. I've compared the Nikon D700's
viewfinder to that of my K10D with accessory 1.17x diopter magnifier,
and the difference was not huge; certainly not a big enough
improvement to justify the expense of moving to FF just for it.

Now, the 645D's viewfinder...now THAT would definitely be an
improvement; it was like looking at a movie theater screen right
inside your camera :-)

Cheers,
