Pentax put a notice out some time ago about jim malcolm wanting to interview
pentaxians. I wrote them a long letter and they called me last week. We didn't
talk too much about anything concrete. It was more casual than I ever expected.
Jim seems like a very nice guy and he seemed very enthusiastic about taking
over north america. I personally feel that the ricoh aquisition will pay off
in spades with time to us pentaxians. He did confirm, but was otherwise tight
lipped on full frame. His comment "well we let the cat out of the bag..."

He loved the mx-1 and wanted to brass his copy up lol. He also confirmed
that the Q indeed lacks a low pass AA filter. He felt that it was marketed to
the wrong crowd here, but in japan it is currently doing very well. Also we
talked about post processing a lot and he talked about how capture one
doesn't support the 645 due to it being a phase one product. He also
convinced me to give phase one a try. I downloaded the trial, but spending
another 300 on software is probably not the best use of my money at the
moment I must admit. I did like what I saw though.

He told me to stay in touch and I have his assistants email address at
pentax. All in all it was a nice chat and I was quite a bit star struck and
speechless unfortunately. I did hammer out my main points in my letter (more
primes...bring full frame...etc) which I'm pretty sure he read. He seemed
to like my work too. Who knows...maybe I can get into the pentax gallery
online one day..... :)

I did repeatedly state that marketing in north america needs vastly
expanded upon. He said that their goal is to become the #3 camera maker in
the world. To that end I say, best of luck and its going to be an interesting
ride either way. Looking forward to the future of pentax in this small
corner!
