Frank,

I am always surprised seeing this type of fenders.
Is it just a show-off, or does it have any practical reason?
In my opinion the main purpose of the bike fenders is prevent the
bicyclist from splushed on. And that would be more effecient if the
fender was closer to the tire.

I understand why racing bikes do not need fenders, but for messengers,
who get to ride in wet weather (I am assuming that from some of your
photos), - that would seem to be important.
So, why no or less-than-efficient fenders?
