At this point in time I am not sure I will become a better photographer. I am very rusty now, but when I am at the top of my form, I am decent and, sometimes, pretty decent.
I saw a lot of improvement in my beginning years, now it's more slight improvement that may show up over time, but is not that evident to me during the course, of say, a year. I am not that big on gear or gear-related reasons for anything. If something annoys me, I get rid of it, sell it, and eventually buy sometime else. Over time, this means that what I have now is totally different than what I had years ago. With one exception, I had a Tamron 90 macro lens with Pentax, and I got another Tamron 90 macro lens for Canon. I liked the lens that much and it was reasonably priced. Although my own improvement now is hard for me to see, I still set "tasks" for myself to do. I've never played with DOF that much, a common photographic technique that lots of others use more than I do, so I am playing with DOF more and more. I'd also like to try night photography more since I've done so little. So I guess my answer is I tend to focus on areas I have little experience in and start working on them. It also helps keep my interest up. I have also recently signed up for a 10-week photography course, by a teacher I've had before, to jump start my photography. I've found when I get in slumps that a real-life course will do that. It is a hobby for me too, nevertheless, I do have a muse. As a former oil painter (who never actually painted that much), I would like to combine art & photography (I am not speaking of Photoshop per se). Even though I am very rusty now, I've decided no more putting it off, now is the time to try. With this class and working on areas in which I am weak, I should be able to get non-rusty eventually if not a lot sooner. That is the hope anyway. The more I can master basic photography, the more likely it is that I can successfully merge art & photography. Marnie aka Doe :-) In a message dated 4/18/2013 12:05:20 A.M.
