I'm with Mark C--lots of things in my life are Serious and need Concentration and Effort, and for me photography is a release from them.
I take my best shots when I'm playing with the camera; not when I'm trying to make a "statement" or improve myself. What my photography needs is more shooting, because it gets easier and better the more I do. Of course, that time has to be taken from something else I enjoy.
