Ann, Go thru the main menu of the camera. (You don't need no stinkin directions.) The 5th or 6th screen leads you to a long list of 25+ options. Look at them, turning on or off the 25 different options. The K-5 is currently set NOT TO WORK with lenses with an aperture ring. CHANGE THAT! Then your 28mm will work like Paul suggests.
