You should see the progress bar in the App Store app showing it downloading. It's a very large download … 4 or 5 gigabytes plus … which will take overnight on most home network services. (I have decent service here; a 2.75G file I needed from the office took almost three hours to download. At the office, it would have taken four minutes.)
If you continue to have trouble downloading it, I'd recommend going to an Apple Retail Store if there's one reasonably nearby and doing the download and installation there.
