John, what you say is correct. However I haven't seen 16-50 offered here for sale brand new. Well, let me correct myself. I've just looked it up. One site (which has rather questionable reputation) has it on offer for excess of USD 1700... Now, do I want to spend 5 times more I spent on my Sigma and still face a possibility of having to deal with this specific shop flaky service? I could buy one second hand and hope for the better...

Either way - when all things considered, I would rather stay with my Sigma. For shooting where I need to control the image quality I have the likes of FA 43 and FA 77 (the latter being repaired right now, but that's beside the point) or (sadly also in repairs) Voigt 15/4.5 for my Ricoh GXR-M.

> Still, whether you live in a big country or a small one, the 16-50 you
get is assembled in the same plant as the one Paul gets. If Pentax Ricoh
(or Ricoh Pentax whichever it is) were to fix the quality issue for one
it would fix it for all.
