Yeah I've thought about a USB adaptor but haven't looked at prices.  I think 
DBAN works with them.  Now that I think about it I have a dead USB drive which 
I think is SATA internally.  If the USB side is still working I might be able 
to use that.

One of the upsides of having to move out for our earthquake repairs is that 
I've been clearing out my old computer stuff.  I found 5 old drives that either 
won't spin up or simply wouldn't talk to the host so I'll probably drill a hole 
through the platters just to be sure.
