installed over the years I was running XP are now gone.

I totally agree. It sure would be nice if there was a convenient way to keep track of these tweaks for just such occasions.

install new programs & configure them the way I want them configured.

I need a PDF file reader, and none I've tried over the years work better
than Adobe's Acrobat Reader.

Unfortunately I got distracted and downloaded an installer from an Adobe
mimic site. Didn't install the reader, but it has installed two malware
programs "My Search Dial" and "Convert Files For Free".

"EFF 'em!"

Looks like maybe I'm going to have to resort to the BIG HAMMER
Un-Installer of Last Resort ... FDISK here I come!
