Status update: I've now managed to retrieve my old bookmarks from
Firefox without completely hosing my new bookmarks.
I don't know what's going on with the internet, I'm getting time-outs
with every URL I try to open and with Thunderbird trying to log onto
Time Warner's mail server. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 (or more) retries
before I can connect.
There may be something miss-configured in my router & home network
setup, but if so, I haven't figured out what it is. I had started having
the same problems with XP, and I suspect it's just Time Warner is
providing a lousy connection.
I also suspect it's deliberate because they've been flogging a new
*Turbo* that costs more than the basic cable internet and they want
basic cable internet customers to be so frustrated they'll pay the extra
just to be able to connect.
