Must be the reverb ;-)
I'm just about to 'upgrade' my cheapy mando. I got a set of K&K twin
internal pickups and installed them already - hardest part was drilling
out the tailpiece. The jack plug socket fits through it, and into the
interior through the woodwork, and you glue the pickups near the f-
holes. Actually a lot easier than it sounds. Plus got some Grover
machine heads to replace the no-name cheapies, and a set of D'Addario
EXP74 strings. Can't wait to put it all back together on Friday, a day off.
Only got a little Fender practice amp, but it gonna get a lil loud round
here ;-)
That sounds like quite an upgrade, Cotty! I'm glad it was easier than it
sounds, because I don't think I could bring myself to undertake
something like that. I was tempted to try to do the setup on my Strat,
but decided I'd be better off just leaving it to a pro. I did deck the
tremolo on it, though. So I'm not completely averse to doing mods on
guitars. When I first brought it home and hooked into my amp, I was
seriously considering getting one of those pre-wired pick guards --
pearloid style with hotter pickups -- but have decided I really like the
tone I get through the clean channel and am hesitant to change it. And
if I ever take a notion to rock out, the humbuckers on my Telecaster are
up to the task.
Have fun with the mando and see if you can get the cops called on you!
