Well said, Frank. Difficult to imagine, but it may be that Hamas doesn't want a negotiated settlement. IOW, it's all or nothing. My hope for your safety, Boris, and that of your family.

My heart goes out to all Israelis who live with the fear of rocket and other terrorist attacks. I can't imagine what that's like. There is no justification for what Hamas does: it is criminal. HOWEVER, Israel's response is completely out of proportion, heavy-handed and seems bound to be ineffectual or worse. Here's what I know: Hamas is prepared to sacrifice innocent Palestinian civilians to win world opinion and sympathy. The government and military of Israel is prepared to sacrifice innocent Palestinian civilians for all sorts of reasons that are probably best discussed elsewhere. As of last night 154 Palestinians and 0 Israelis have died since this latest escalation started. Each side blames the other and claims total justification for their actions. Someone needs to step up and choose peace. No one seems prepared to do that. Accordingly this horrendous situation. Will continue.
