I think you misunderstood Dan's comment - he wasn't talking about
you showing photos , he was making a joke about how ugly he thought
all those houses were that is "putting up" meaning "erecting/building"
i agree — "putting up" could mean "posting [photos] to the internet" but
i'm quite sure that's *not* what Dan meant; certainly there are no
architectural review boards in the US that censor photos on the internet!
i assume Dan, like me, didn't think those buildings were attractive; i
wasn't sure how to take Bipin's post so i was quiet about it
however, i happen to be a bit suspicious of architectural review boards
too (being the son of an architect and being an homeowner within a
locally and nationally designated "landmark district")
Also moot because none of the buildings were any kind of new
construction. They were built before architectural review boards came
along to ensure new construction would maintain the distinct character
of the neighborhood.
In fact, they're the kind of buildings architectural review boards would
reference to determine that distinct character.
Number 3 & number 4 look to be the most recent and I doubt either was
built any later than 1990. Probably even earlier.
The first building looks 1920s; the faux Bavarian storefronts in number
5 are probably late 40s and the last one looks like the kind of
apartment house The Continental Op would live in.
