Larry, I don't know about the general prices of Windows upgrades either, as when and if I do that, I use highly discounted software. But it is not just the monetary value associated with the upgrade. A bigger problem is the time and effort that goes into that. It could also be a major pain, especially for those who aren't very computer savvy as many of us. Even for experienced people, upgrading Windows on a _laptop_ can be a major project because of the proprietory drivers involved.
And in some cases, one might encounter additional expenses for replacing other 32-bit software with the 64-bit version.
And that could be for a computer that was bought a few months ago? (as I wrote in another message, even Win 8.1 comes in a 32-bit version.)
