I've been able to convert Pentax DNG files from my K10D & K20D via PS CS2
with no issues.
CS2 will not process DNG files from my K3D - when I try I get "could not
complete request because it is not right kind of file".
Using the Adobe DNG convertor ver 8.3 I can convert to a DNG recognized by
CS2 and also get a smaller file size (22.6 vs 29.8)
Makes me think the K3D must be producing a special flavor of DNG different
from the K10 & 20D.
I can only assume the DNG files from the KS must be of a similar flavor as
those from the K10/20D.
IIRC, with CS2, the RAE convertor was not upgradeable, but CS3 and newer
was.

Not having a K-3 I could be wrong in this but I don't think K-3 DNGs can

Sorry, Brian, you are wrong. Pentax DNG files can be opened by any
version of Photoshop that has a raw converter. For fun, I fired up my 11
year old laptop a while back to test this out. It has Photoshop 7 on it
(pre CS), which was the first version to have a raw converter available.
The poor thing gagged on the size of the KS files, but eventually opened
them. It took a very long time.
This is the laptop I purchased when I bought the istD because it was
cheaper to buy it than the 4 1gb cards I thought I would need (at that
time a 1gb card was about $400.00).
Well, that's odd because Ken reported that his CS2 wouldn't open his K-3
files.
To check further, I downloaded a sample K-3 DNG to test it out on my CS3.
It opened fine.
Hmmm....
