P.J. Where did you read about this locking the camera feature of the collapsible lens? I can't see it mentioned in the K-S2 manual or the specs pages for the lens(es) themselves. (There are two versions on this lens: The HD coated and the DA/L SMC coated version that serves as the kit lens.) I'm not doubting you, just wondering about the source that discussed that capability.
I think it is a little odd to merely suspect that the capability is in firmware (as opposed to having that suspicion be confirmed) and then getting "pissed" on the basis of a supposition that could turn out to be flawed.
