We're on opposite ends of the spectrum, Bruce. I love prints. I'm estimating that this R2400 printer has made on the order of 11,000 prints (in all sizes) since I bought it in October 2005. It's still working beautifully.
This year in particular, I've been on a "two fine prints per week" program, mining my photo archives of the past decade and some to make a regularly sized set of at least 100 prints for the year. I print my cards, client prints, and other folio and exhibition pieces here at home too. There's no way I could afford to send all this stuff out to a print service, and I wouldn't get the same control of the print process if I did. Never mind the time involved. I don't know off-hand how many prints I've sold, but it's a steady trickle every year … It's certainly paid for the printer, as well the ink and paper consumed by printing them. I'm not a huge-print fan, though. I'm deciding between the R3880 and the P600, and I think I'm going to stick with the P600 size as I print larger than 13x19 so infrequently. I usually gang-print two or four images at a time onto 13x19 paper and cut to size; the R3880 would allow some greater efficiencies in doing that but the added cost of the printer and inksets offset the efficiencies in the negative direction.
