I have found that Tav is my preferred auto exposure mode. Particularly when under ISO 1600 sensitivity is the setting that makes the least difference to the image. If you change ISO from 80 to 640 on a well lit subject you probably won't notice in the final image, but changing the shutter speed between 1/8 and 1/64 of a second, or even 1/80 and 1/640 will usually make a big difference in motion blur. Likewise four stops of aperture will make a big difference in depth of field.

I wish my camera had a mode for bracketing ISO rather than shutter speed.

There is a danger, however. The wheel is rather close to the on/off
switch. When I am walking around with the camera off, and I see a
photo opportunity that will last only a second or two, my large,
clumsy finger have a way of inadvertently turning the wheel as I am
rutning the camera on. I have messed up several images over the past
few days, especially at the San Diego Zoo. :(

I second Bruce's suggestion of just leaving the camera on as you are walking around. I'll turn the switch off when I put it in the bag.
