From those instructions it doesn't appear the focusing rail would be of
value in finding the nodal point.

I've done limited stitching for panos and it appears that far off subjects can be stitched quite well without bothering to find the nodal point.

You would need to find and write down the nodal point for each lens, and use the focusing rack to adjust appropriately.

Since panos are now so easy in LR6, it's now something I need to be aware of.
