France is a great country for walking. I had a walking holiday in the Cevennes a few years ago, based in Florac, and really enjoyed it. I used to enjoy watching people come into town looking the worse for wear from doing the Stevenson Trail - some even take a donkey. A few of my friends have done the Stevenson Trail and they loved it, and one of them has also walked substantial parts of the Saint James pilgrim trail in that area. Very different from Norfolk, but I think you'd really enjoy it. The main difference between walking in France and walking in the UK is that over there they dress for it and try to look stylish, whereas we Brits are only happy if we look as though we're wearing plastic carrier bags retrieved from a supermarket rubbish bin, preferably in the rain.
