The 1.7 is a very nice converter. It works well, but you are limited to
the central AF point, the adapter defaults the camera to believing that
any lens is a K, M, or A class.
I've used it a lot, but the suggestions for use are simply misleading.
Instead of leaving the lens focused at infinity, I first get close by
focusing manually then activate auto focus, usually it snaps right into
focus even with older cameras. The problem is you cannot just trust to
auto focus with the adapter.
Pentax didn't recommend it for use with lenses slower than f2.8. I find
it works reliably with f4.0 lenses on the K20D and K-5II in most
lighting and the *ist-D series in relatively bright light.
I don't remember at this point exactly how well it worked with AF film
cameras, but I got pretty good results with the LX after figuring out
how to set the adapter to it's infinity focus point.

I figure I'll use the 1.4 in crop mode or on my K3 for small bird photography
with the 150/450. That's been working fine so far. For anything else I shoot,
450mm will be plenty on the K1. The problem with the 1.7 has always been
unreliable autofocus. I don't think I want one.

Thanks for the heads-up on the 1.4x vs 1.7x converters. I would
imagine that a new FF converter is on the drawing boards right now,
but in the meantime this means that the used market on these is going
to take a big jump. I just snagged an EXC+ one from KEH for $239,
which is about 50% less than they were going for before the 1.4x was
introduced. I have the feeling that the 1.7x will be in the upper 300s
and lower 400s very soon - once MORE people realize this.
I don't plan on being an early adopter of the K-1, but that is one
piece that will be valuable regardless (including on my K-3 II).

Very impressed by the K1 specs sofar (and the price).
Won't be the first to get one, but perhaps later in the year :)

DA 560mm F5.6 - Fully Functional
RC1.4X - Crop Mode Only
That last one is a bit of a suprise, I would have expected that to work in FF.
Will we no have to wait another 10 years for an updated one ?
(Of course I can use the 1.4L, but no AF then)

I agree. I was quite disappointed to see that the relatively new RC1.4X will be
crop mode only.
But I still have the F1.7AF… Still thinking about this...
